Seven characteristics shared by the most successful people in the music industry

"Nothing is as important as passion. No matter what you want to do with your life, be passionate."

- Jon Bon Jovi

Passion. It's the irresistible driving force that motivates us to keep going, despite all obstacles, to achieve our goals.

Jon Bon Jovi is a good example of a musician with passion. From an early age, he knew without any doubt that his future would be in music.By the age of 16, he was playing in clubs around his New Jersey hometown. At 17, he talked his way into a job sweeping floors at his cousin Tony's recording studio, and, in 1980, even managed to make his first professional recording: a song titled "R2-D2 We Wish You a Merry Christmas" for a Star Wars-themed Holiday album!

In 1982, he recorded a song titled "Runaway," taking it to a number of record companies, all of which turned him down. But such was his passion that he was sure there was another way.He took the song to a major rock station, WAPP-FM in New York City.He managed to get in front of the station's promotion director, John Lassman, who was so impressed with the passion that the young artist displayed that he agreed to include the song in the station's record album featuring local talent."Runaway" became a local hit, and John Bon Jovi was on his way.

The song brought him to the attention of the record label Mercury, whose A&R executives recognized that they had a talented performer with the passion to succeed. A string of mega-hit albums followed, making Bon Jovi a national, and then international, star.

Not surprisingly, John Bon Jovi's passion has made him a formidable force in his activities outside show business, too.He admits that he is passionate about the desperate plight of the homeless and was named the first Founding Ambassador for Habitat for Humanity, and provided the funds to build six homes in Philadelphia, personally carrying out construction alongside the homeowner families. In 2006 he founded what is now known as the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, created to combat issues that force families into economic despair.Under his passionate leadership, the Foundation creates programs to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness.

People who are passionate know in their heart what they want to achieve. They are certain that they have something to do, something to say. They know it is important; important to themselves and important to others.

Passionate people become successful, despite the odds, because passion is contagious.Be passionate about your career and others will see your vision the way you see it… your enthusiasm will become their enthusiasm. As Oprah Winfrey said, "Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you."

Passion makes you tingle. When you make others tingle from your passion, nothing can stop you.
