1) Get ready for top performance: Gone is the guilt for taking nap/meditation breaks! I saw an interview of Jerry Seinfeld. He said that throughout his career, including the Seinfeld show (a favorite of mine), he meditated twice a day, every day. He largely credited it with his success on the show, and in life.

2) Stay healthy! I love DrWeil.com daily health tips, from Dr. Andrew Weil. They are great! A recent one cited a study that showed that people who meditate and take naps daily have lower blood pressure than those who don't. We have enough stress being in the music biz… take a nap or meditation break!

3) Practice better breathing for better singing: I'm sure you have learned a zillion breathing exercises. Take time to practice them, guilt free, during your nap or meditation break! One that Dr. Weil and many others recommend is the 4-7-8 sequence: inhale for 4 counts, hold your breath for 7 counts, exhale for 8 counts. Inhale through your nose on this one and exhale through you your mouth, with your tongue behind your upper teeth on roof of your mouth. Exhale through your mouth, mouth open, with tongue behind your teeth….Get up refreshed and ready for more of your day!

I've always been a nap/meditation person. I think it's because I've wanted to fit so much of what I wanted to do in a day, sports, music, nature. I've finally decided that if I want to be on the go for long hours, a mid-day break, when possible, is a great idea.
