Orange County's best known DIY venue is going corporate.

Live Nation and Chain Reaction in Anaheim, California, announced a strategic partnership Thursday (May 2) to "amplify concerts across both companies’ club and theater venues in Southern California and expand Chain Reaction’s festival presence in the region," a release from the company explains.

The decision to align with one of North America's two largest concert promoters is a departure from the punk rock club's independent ethos. Similar to the famous 924 Gilman in Berkeley, California, the 23-year-old Chain Reaction is all ages and was alcohol free until last year, with walls covered with band T-shirts and a large sign near the stage prohibiting stage diving and moshing -- which is resolutely ignored.

“This is an awesome chance for Live Nation to leverage our relationships to play a role in helping seed an already robust local presence that Chain Reaction has nurtured for decades,” says Ben Weeden, COO Live Nation Clubs & Theaters, in a press release. “We are working together across all of our Orange County and San Diego venue portfolios to increase the great shows coming through our rooms, and now Chain Reaction is part of that as well.”

Owner Andy Serrao -- who also serves as president of Fearless Records -- said in a statement that “Chain Reaction has long had an influence felt locally and worldwide. We are and have always been a place that celebrates cultural differences and expression of art through music by giving artists a platform to grow and be supported.”
