By Billboard

Kane Brown stopped to chat with Billboard’s Annie Reuter on the red carpet at the 2019 Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday (Apr. 7), discussing working with Khalid and how that collaboration came about.

Asked how he and Khalid first joined forces, Brown tells Billboard that Khalid approached him and wanted him to jump on the remix for “Saturday Nights.”

“He said he wrote it as a country song and it’s got a really good story to it,” Brown explains. “I’m not gonna turn down Khalid, of course. So today, it’s his debut into country music. We actually get to get up on the stage and perform it for the first time.”

Brown adds that Khalid loves country music, and music in general. “I feel like that’s why we get along,” he states. “We’re both laid back guys and you'll definitely be able to tell that tonight on stage.”
