Blake Shelton Delivers Rocking 'God's Country' as Gwen Stefani Cheers Him On at 2019 ACM Awards
Blake Shelton is no stranger to major moments at country music awards ceremonies, but at the 2019 Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday night (April 7), the veteran singer-songwriter dropped one of his most fiery performances to date with new single “God’s Country" as Gwen Stefani cheered him on from the audience.
The new song is a chest-thumping anthem, and Shelton had the crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas riled up as he sneered through its most charged-up moments. As footage of changing skies and roaring fires played behind his band, Shelton never wavered in his conviction of the new track, and gave the ACMs one of its many highlights.
“God’s Country” was released last week as the lead track from Shelton’s forthcoming studio album, which will be his first since 2017’s Texoma Shore.
“‘God’s Country’ is a song that has a strong and deep meaningful lyric, but at the same time it leaves it up to the listener's interpretation,” Shelton said in a statement. “But no matter where you are from or where you’re standing it is my belief that you’re standing in God’s Country. It’s really about a state of mind. Wherever you’re from and how you feel about that place. For me it’s about being from Oklahoma -- where I was born, raised and still live today.”
