Jack Antonoff Unveils Synth-Pop Project Red Hearse, Shares 2 Tracks: Listen

By Billboard

Bruce Hornsby dropped the new single "Cast Off" on Thursday (March 21), featuring Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and S. Carey.

The track finds the veteran musician trading lyrics with Vernon and Carey over instrumental accompaniment by a wide-ranging list of contributors, including Brad Cook, Jeremy Ylvisaker and JV Collier of Hornsby’s touring band The Noisemakers.

“I’ll be, I’ll be your cast-off/ Be your discarded toy/ I’ll be, I’ll be your cast-off/ Your maybe sometime choice,” the Grateful Dead collaborator sings forlornly over organ-like synths and swelling percussion.

According to a statement from Hornsby, “Cast Off” is “about acceptance, and even gratitude, in the face of rejection, egolessness, patience and humility.”

The song was recorded at Vernon’s April Base recording studio in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and will be featured on Hornsby’s upcoming seventh solo album, Absolute Zero, which is due April 12 via Zappo Productions/Thirty Tigers.
