Cardi B says she's sharing her Grammy with Mac Miller
By NME Magazine
Miller was also nominated for Best Rap Album
Miller was also nominated in that category for his last album, ‘Swimming’. He died a month after it was released at the age of 26.
In a video posted on her Instagram page, Cardi took a moment out of celebrating her win for ‘Invasion Of Privacy’ to remember the late rapper. “I read an article that Mac Miller family said that he don’t win, they want me to win,” she said. “So I’m sharing this Grammy with you, motherfucker. Rest in peace.”
When collecting her award on stage, Cardi was overcome by nerves. “The nerves are so bad, maybe I need to start smoking weed,” she joked. She also used her speech to highlight the work she put into making the album while pregnant with her first child, Kulture.
“I wanna thank my daughter,” she said. “I’m not just saying thank you because she’s my daughter. When I found out I was pregnant, my album was not complete. I had three songs that I was for sure happy and then, you know how it was. We had to get this album done so I could shoot these videos while I’m still not showing. It was very long nights.”
The rapper was the first solo female artist to win the award for Best Rap Album. She was nominated for another four awards but did not win any of them. Cardi also performed at the ceremony, playing her latest single ‘Money’.
Other winners on the night included Kacey Musgraves, Childish Gambino, H.E.R., Lady Gaga, and Ariana Grande. You can see the full list of winners from the 2019 Grammys here.
