South Korea Grapples with K-Pop Sex Scandals

AMPED, the indie distribution arm of wholesaling giant Alliance Entertainment, has just landed a deal to handle physical distribution for Secretly Distribution, the indie distributor based in Bloomington, Indiana, which represents 50 indie labels and thousands of titles.

"Secretly Distribution is one of the most recognized and important independent operations championing what the indie spirit is all about," AMPED Distribution vp Dean Tabaac said in a statement. "AMPED is humbled and honored to be entrusted as a distribution partner and to become a part of their growing legacy. AMPED’s ability to connect Secretly’s impressive roster of par excellence artists with fans wherever they shop is the core of who we are and we are elated that Secretly feels the same way."

Secretly's distributed labels include Bayonet, FatCat Records, Ghostly International, Jagjaguwar, Joyful Noise Recordings, K Records, Magnetic South, Numero Group, Sacred Bones Records, Secretly Canadian, Touch and Go Records, and Western Vinyl, according to its website; and the artists it distributes include Sharon Van Etten, Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, Angel Olsen, Tycho, Wild Nothing, Helado Negro, Mac DeMarco, and Mitski.

Previously, the Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA) handled physical distribution for Secretly. With all major labels cutting back on their staff and resources for physical formats, Secretly, which still gets a healthy portion of its revenue from vinyl and CDs, wanted to be with a distributor that still had physical as a main priority, Secretly Distribution MD Chris Welz says. He adds that in addition, Secretly wants to expand its indie store base.

AMPED's parent, Alliance, gets about $400 million of its $775 million in revenue from CDs and vinyl, as it sells to nearly 1,800 indies stores as well as such chains as Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Meijers and Dillards, as well as providing vendor management of CDs for Walmart.
