Jai Wolf Finds '80s Synth Pop Vibe On 'Lost' With Chelsea Jade: Listen
Sixteen months of silence are broken in a burst of synthetic light as Jai Wolf makes a lofty return. The "Indian Summer" producer had a big look with his 2016 EP Kindred Spirits, and he followed it strong with the dreamy haze of "Starlight," but his new single sees that sonic optimism and raises it one streak of '80s neon.
"Lost" is a synth-pop jame comprised of simple, edgy chords, a killer rhythm and a coo vocal feature from Chelsea Jade. It's still upbeat and forward-moving, but that ever-upward optimism that imbues much of his work is tempered by a mature sense of insecurity.
"Chelsea and I wrote this song as sort of an anthem for a generation of kids who feel disillusioned by the world around them," Wolf said in a release. “Feeling lost is something that never necessarily goes away. Even when you might think you've found your way, your perspective might shift and you may feel lost again. This song is about that cycle and our desire to escape it. This song is also special to me because it is the perfect bridge between my old music and where I want to go next.”
There's something faintly The Cure about the song's big feelings. "Lost" is certainly a step in a new direction and a peek into Wolf's creative LP process.
"I'm so happy to be putting out music after 16 months, starting with this song." he continues. "Chelsea was so incredible to write with - she has a very unique way with words. I'm thankful to have been able to write what I think is the first chapter of my next era with her."
