Hi MSH community! I'm not sure how many people will read this, but as the membership grows, so will blog readers and contributors. My name is Amy Holm. Professionally, I'm currently the Public Relations Director at the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum. Personally, I'm an avid country music listener (repping the '90's country music since 2 years old), craft beer lover (growing up in the Pacific Northwest will do that to you), and have an intense, natural affinity for all things chocolate.
I attended the Music Starts Here ConPro event a couple weeks ago, and was inspired to finally start a project that I've been ruminating on for a couple months now. I am going to start blogging my experience of working in Nashville's music tourism industry - daily observations, tasks, strategies, surprising events and thoughts, etc. It can be used as a resource for someone who wants to know what it's like to work in a unique aspect of the music industry (at a music museum) or a peek into the behind-the-scenes of the Musicians Hall of Fame. I'll also be writing about my experiences networking, attending events and shows, and personal experiences that have to do with professionalism and what it's like to be in the working world in Music City.
I don't pretend to think for one second that I know everything about, or even have a good grasp on, the music industry. The complete opposite in fact. I'm well-versed in how the industry works, but I'm just starting to get my feet wet with it all. So this will really be something that I'll be sharing as I discover and experience things for myself. If nothing else, I'll be able to read back on these posts and notice different nuances of how someone might grow their professional life in Nashville.
It's easy to see, through attending the ConPro event, that learning what others have accomplished or are working on in this crazy industry of music can inspire you to pursue your own endeavors. Have you found inspiration through networking with other professionals? Let me know in the comments below.
